토플은 비영어권 학생들이 영어권 대학(주로 미국)에 입학해서 공부할 수 있는 능력을 테스트하는 것입니다.
자연스레 토플은 미국 대학교에서 수업하는 내용이 주로 이루어져있습니다.

누구든지 토플을 공부할 때 만큼은 "난 지금 미국 대학에 교환학생으로 와있다~" 라는 마음으로 임해야됩니다.
따라서 토플을 잘 보려면 아카데믹(Academic) 영어에 익숙해져야만 한다는 결론이 나오죠.
